Size: Length 51-59cm (20-23ins). Wingspan 120-150cm (48-58in).
Status: Common
Habitat: Open country, mountains & some light forests. (America).
Reproduction: 1-3 eggs. March-April.
28-32 day incubation.
Diet: Squirrels, rabbits, some birds and a few snakes. |
Raptor Facts
An aggressive bird, Red-Tails are well favoured by falconers for the use of hunting. Red-Tails will even catch and kill rattlesnakes! There are three forms or ‘colour phases’. The light forms live on the prairies, the dark forms live in Alaska.
