Raptor facts
Although now having a stable population, their numbers fell in the 1950,s due to myxamatosis killing 95% of the rabbit population. They did not recover until the 1980’s when toxic pesticides were finally banned.
Often a lazy bird, they will also eat slugs, snails, spiders, beetles and earthworms.
They have many colour phases ranging from deep brown to cream, almost white.Very confusing for the bird watcher!
